This counter-archive seeks to document the stories of the black walnut trees south of Back Campus and north of University College. This project was created for Professor Andrea Most’s fourth year seminar course on ecocriticism (ENG482H1).
I presented my research at the Arts and Science Union’s Undergraduate Research Conference and St. Michael’s College’s Undergraduate Research Colloquium. My project won the 2025 Peter and Patricia Shannon Wilson Undergraduate Research Prize and the Outstanding Poster award at the Undergraduate Research Colloquium.
Winner of the Outstanding Poster Award. Featured in St. Michael’s Alumni Magazine: 2025 Spring/Summer.
From the Department of English: "At the May 23 award ceremony, Professor Most called Vivian’s work—which involved archival research into black walnut trees on campus and into the life of Beverly Bennett, who donated the trees to the university—'one of the most creative and impressively researched final projects' that Professor Most had seen in all her years teaching the course."
